Procurement Heads – recruiting muscle fibres as well as procurement talent

If you had been a fly on the wall of three separate gardens across Winchester this Sunday you would have been amazed to see the same scene unfold.

Man in lycra climbs off speed racer bike. Man sets bike carefully down and limps across back lawn. Man finds open space. Man collapses into said space and lies flat on the ground. Man stays in same position for over one hour. Concerned wife has to rouse man from exercise induced exhaustion after fears he will remain in garden for foreseeable future.

This is what happened following a training session taken on by Procurement Heads Director Rupert Gaster and two fellow cyclists in a bid to get them to a peak level of fitness for the up and coming Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 event. The 100 mile ride takes place in August this year and In order to build up the necessary fitness levels and stamina needed to make it a success all three men took on a 40 mile endurance ride which incorporated every serious hill climb known to cyclists in the Hampshire region.

When we caught up with Rupert on Monday afternoon he still hadn’t quite recovered, although he didn’t let it stop him attending meetings with three senior procurement leaders across the Dorset and Hampshire region that day. It’s this kind of determination to make things happen that will no doubt help him fly across the finish line and hit his fundraising target of £1000 for Procurement Heads charity partner Macmillan Cancer Support.
