 The organisation

As part of an ongoing transformation of the Procurement function, this high performing Local Organisation is seeking several Category Managers in order to plan, drive and deliver Procurement Strategies in collaboration with internal and external departments, stakeholders and organisations.

Managing a Procurement spend of up to £650M, the procurement team has been re-structured to  facilitate best practice and a commercial approach to the entire Procurement Lifecycle.

The Person

The ideal applicant will have recent Category management or Senior Procurement experience, the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, and knowledge of End-to-End Procurement and Category Spend Process.

Prior exposure to OJEU/Public Sector Procurement is desirable but not essential.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Drive category management activity for a clearly defined category or group of subcategories
  • Develop and implement Commercial Category Plans for each market facing category or sub-category of spend under the direction of the Category Lead, which drive commercial outcomes, shape markets and transform services
  • Translate plans into implementable procurement and commercial initiatives and opportunities under the direction of the Category Lead Assistant
  • Accept joint responsibility for the delivery of savings and benefits targets as directed by the Category Lead through innovative sourcing, demand management and market shaping activities and ensure accurate tracking and delivery of assigned performance targets measured against a balanced scorecard of metrics
  • Plan, drive and deliver high-value market management projects across the Procurement lifecycle with support from the Procurement Delivery team
  • Work with Departments and Partner organisations to embed best practice Contract Management and Supplier Relationship Management frameworks, supported by the Commercial Lead and where required, provide input and support to develop commercial relationships and support performance and innovation activities
  • Develop and maintain deep market knowledge and insight for a specific category or subcategories
  • Act as mentor to lower grade resources across the Procurement and Commercial function to build skills, capabilities and confidence and support the development of a high performing team
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting from the project team to stakeholders on progress, and to manage any risks and issues arising as appropriate
